RIO DE JANEIRO, April 11 (Xinhua) -- At least nine people were killed and about 20 others injured after a bus overturned on a road in the city of Teixeira de Freitas in Brazil's eastern state of Bahia on Thursday, the Federal Highway Police said.

The accident occurred early Thursday morning after the driver lost control of the vehicle which then overturned, according to the Federal Highway Police.

The bus departed from Rio de Janeiro in southeastern Brazil and was heading for the tourist city of Porto Seguro.

The conditions of those injured in the accident are still unknown, and local bus authorities are expected to make it clear who would take responsibility for the accident. ■
